About Laura Morgan

Laura has been involved in racing for most of her life. She is the daughter of former trainer Kevin Morgan, who incidentally had probably his most successful spell as a trainer whilst based in Waltham and using the same gallops that Laura now uses.

After assisting her father for several years , Laura then had a spell as travelling head lass for neighbouring trainer Chris Bealby at Barrowby.

Laura was then awarded a Racing Scholarship and chose to spend her 6 months of learning with legendary Australian handler Peter Moody. During her time down under she helped with the preparation and training of the amazing “Super Mare” Black Caviar.

On her return from Australia, Laura took up a fantastic position as Travelling Head Girl for Jonjo O’Neill at Jackdaws Castle. Whilst in Gloucestershire, Laura made many friends and forged excellent contacts throughout the world of racing. Laura was responsible for preparing and turning out many big race winners at The Cheltenham Festival, Aintree and all the other big National Hunt meetings.

After 4 years at Jackdaws Castle , Laura took over the Trainers Licence from Chris Bealby and after a brief spell at Barrowby, moved the string back to the family home at Foxfield Stud, Waltham-On-The-Wolds where things have gone from strength to strength and the winners are flowing !

Laura has assembled a hard working and loyal team to support her in her hectic training schedule. Brother Tommy is the yard Farrier. The yard has a very strong team of talented work riders led by Lizzie Harris, who previously used to train a small but hugely successful string of point to pointers and now is very successful in the Retraining of Racehorses events. The rest of the team is made up of Conditional Jockey, Lewis Dobb, Amateur Jockey’s James Robottom, Emma Stewart, Ellie Mayo, Alice Coleman and Menna Bridger. Lukas Payne is our yard worker.

Behind the scenes, binding everything together is Laura’s Mum, Carol who does anything and everything from boxdriving to babysitting……. Carol certainly keeps the team in order!

Sister Kelly, is also in the training ranks with a successful Point to Point and Pre Training yard. Our Honourary assistant trainer is Niece Olivia.

The Laura Morgan Racing Team

At Laura Morgan Racing we have a wonderful and passionate team that includes family and friends. This is to give a little insight into the amazing workers we have here. With One Conditional Jockey and Five Amateur License holders, we believe in the future of young racing staff.

Lizzie Harris

Lizzie used to train a small but hugely successful string of point to pointers and now is very successful in the Retraining of Racehorses. In 2018 Lizzie won the Racehorse to Riding Horse qualifier at Burghley Horse trials onboard Wild West. Amazingly Lizzie repeated the same feat in 2019 onboard Lough Inch!   Lizzie is pictured with TJ (Youngest member of the team) and Olivia ( Honorary assistant Trainer).

Lewis Dobb

Yard Conditional Jockey Lewis has ridden 6 winners for the team, striking a great relationship with Hasankey in the 21/22 season. Winning 3 races on the bounce meant they qualified for the Grand Annual. Hasankey and Lewis had a great race and finished a brilliant 6th. This is the teams best result at the Cheltenham Festival.

Ellie Mayo

Ellie has been with the team over 2 years. In that time has become a vital member of the team and gained her Amateur Licence. Ellie recently had her first ride for us at Catterick. Last year she was leading one of our horses, before being offered a ride 10 minutes before the off time!

James Rowbotham

James joined us last year having previously worked with the team at Rose Dobbin. Holding his Amateur Jumps licence we were delighted to be able to give him his ride for the team at Southwell onboard Tara’s Day (Pictured)

Emma Stewart

Our Northern Irish girl joined us last year after being with the Kevin Frost team. Emma has recently gained her Flat Amateur licence and now looking forward to her first race. Since being with us Emma has created a great relationship with Emma Lamb (Pictured)

Alice Coleman

Alice has been with us for 2 years, joining us after Kelly finished training under rules. Since arriving Alice has gained her amateur jumps licence and has had 4 rides for the team, with her best result under rules coming onboard Printing Dollars at Ludlow finishing 3rd. Alice has also had a couple of Point to Point rides for the team.

Menna Bridger

Menna joined us last year already holding her amateur licence. She had her first run for the yard on Angels Envy at Bangor. Menna has been brilliant since joining us, with a great care for the racehorses with her yard favourite being The Vollan.

Tommy Morgan

Brother Tommy is our Farrier. His love and passion for the horses matches all of ours. Along with Lizzie he was involved with the successful Point to Point runners. When not at the yard Tommy can be found at other local stables completing his farrier duties.

Lucas Payne

Lukas joined us with Menna last year. Again someone with a passion of horses, Lukas is responsible for keeping the yard well maintained, as well as caring for the horses in the yard.
